Hutch!
Hello all. In this edition we return to our furniture-making for the living room.
We had a bookshelf that wasn't going to work on its own (too short) so we tried to covert it to be part of a bigger unit. The process started with cutting off the legs to give us a wider, more secure base and save a little height.
Then we made the movable shelves permanent by using the Kreg tool to attach them with pocket screws.
With all the pieces now firmly assembled here's where things stood.
We wanted to make everything look nice and reopened our paint shop for the shelves, cabinet doors, and drawer fronts. Sanding, priming, painting, and sealing each piece (front and back) took several days. For this project we picked a nice beachy blue from our friends at Sherwin Williams (and no, we are not sponsored by them, but they're the only paint we use).
Final assembly required a little demo to drill out a 1.25-inch hole in the back through which we could thread the cables and wires into the smaller of the two pieces.
Then it was time to reattach the doors and drawer fronts. Here are the finished products. We're pretty pleased with our creations.
Until next time.
